Gal Pals

Hello, and welcome to another Top 5 Wednesday post! Today's post is about beautiful girl friendships in fiction and my top 5 gal pals whom I would love to talk about and share with others just how wonderful they are to others. To be honest with you, I'm not sure how easy or hard this post will be, and it's a question I haven't thought about before, like many of the Top 5 Wednesday prompts, I admit. Let's get straight into my top 5 gal pals from fiction!

1. Right Guy, Wrong Time: A #MeToo Love Story by Louise MacGregor

This book really gives an incredible example of true friendship, being there in each others' times of need even when it is on an uncomfortable topic. After Edie was raped, all her girl friendships came around her to support her and never abandoned her. One of these friends was a rape victim herself, and although it was challenging for this friend, she told Edie that she was always available to talk and even shared her story with Edie. This really allowed Edie to appreciate that she was not on her own. In my opinion, this is what a good friendship is all about; being there for each other, and so I would most certainly tell everyone about these friends and how they are a great example of what friendships should be like.

2. A Study in Chocolate by Amber Royer

Next, we return to Galveston to meet Felciity again in the Bean to Bar Mystery Series. This book and the series have been very popular in my Top 5 Wednesday posts this month. I'm trying not to be too biased or succumb to favouritism, but this is one of many books (many of which are featured on this list) which is truly about wonderful relationships. We have past relationships, romantic relationships, family and community relationships and relationships with friends, which are always so great to read about. But Felicity and her gal pals, including Autumn et al., again seem to be a great friendship group who have a great time together but are also very supportive of each other. They are fun, they are creative and who wouldn't want to be part of this girl gang!

3. Shadow of the West: A Story of Divided Berlin by Sarah Brotherhood Chapman

Kate is another person who was only recently featured on one of my Top 5 Wednesday posts, but her friendship with Amy was another great friendship for each of them. A truly close connection had formed between the two of them, and they engaged in so many different adventures on both sides of the wall, which offered valuable lessons for both girls in terms of how society works on both sides of the wall. It was inevitably clear that Kate and Amy were true friends and would hopefully stay friends despite how they had to separate due to Amy's family situation.

4. First Valentine by Mocha Von Bee (Kit & Tully Series)

We now go back to the past in Ireland, where Kit demonstrated a wonderful relationship in terms of her girl friendships. They seemed like a great, fun, small and young group of friends who loved to discuss all those topics which girls love to talk about. They also very much seemed to enjoy the freedom they had. Group dynamics may not have always been perfect, but it was inevitably a good friendship at least at the time. I would share how these friends just seemed to have a good time and make the most of their teenage years, as they should!

5. Phoenix by Ellie Simms

Finally, this next book is the second of the most upsetting books on this list. The friendship that Brianna forms is not perfect at all, nor is it a very good friendship. It is probably no wonder that this friendship did not last. However, given the situation the females in this book find themselves in, they stuck together and helped each other through their nightmares and living hell before essentially stabbing each other in the back. In a way, this friendship really reduces down to a human survival mechanism, it was a way for the girls to survive in the situation for as long as possible. Although I don't like how this friendship ended, during it, for the majority of the time, they helped each other through an extremely difficult situation, which I would say should be admired.

That is all for this week's Top 5 Wednesday post, so I hope you enjoyed reading this post and please feel free to share your favourite Gal Pals in the comments! Please do look around the blog at other posts including my various reviews, including of the books mentioned above. This list definitely contains some very good books which I would strongly recommend. I hope you look forward to reading next week's post as much as I look forward to writing it!
