It is once again time for another Top 5 Wednesday post! I can say that I have been particularly looking forward to this prompt as I obviously love reading a wide selection of books, but I am a firm believer that there are some books which I have read that everyone should read. Many of these books teach us what I think are vital lessons in life, whether it covers discrimination, the social sciences or how we are with other people. Before we start, I must admit that I found it very difficult to pick just five of these books, but I have managed it, and where I have been able to get away with it, I have mentioned some of the other books I believe everyone should read, some of these books being linked with each other, albeit indirectly. Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before? by Dr Julie Smith is a self-help book and mental health tool kit which is perfect for everyone. In this book, Dr Smith goes through many topics which are a matter of everyday life, including, but not limited to, motivation, emotional pain, grief, stress and fear, and provides practical advice on how one can better cope with these everyday issues. Dr Smith does a good job of explaining the theory of the problems, as investigated by many psychologists, before providing some practical advice which she would use in her therapy sessions. I originally came across Dr Smith at one of the talks she did at the Warwick Arts Centre in 2023, and from that point, I have been eager to read the book. I liked this book because rather than just giving people the solutions to their problems, it also provides the reasons why they are feeling that way, which is essential knowledge if one wants to overcome mental ill health. This is a great book which will take you on an adventure of your lifetime and will bring you back feeling good about yourself and with many goals to work on! This book is a combination of a self-help book and autobiography written by Nelson Tressler. It takes us on a journey of his life explaining why he is in the Unlucky Sperm Club , what it has meant for his life including his childhood and how he has made the most out of his life and how your circumstances do not limit you if you don't let them but instead could be the fuel you need to live the best life possible and to be your best self. From reading this book I can say it has made me honoured to be a member of the Unlucky Sperm Club myself. I like this book because it makes those people who have a membership in the unlucky sperm club proud to be a member.
