Letters To A Law Student by Nicholas McBride

Letters to A Law Student by Nicholas McBride is an essential pre-university read for anyone considering or preparing to study Law at University. This book covers a range of topics such as why choose a law degree, preparing to study Law, studying law, writing like a lawyer and the next steps after one's law degree. Written as letters to a student, it makes the book an amiable and conversational book providing future law students and current law students with the first bit of help and advice they will need to tackle their Law degree and reach their ambitions.

I loved this book. This book has changed the way I think about law in England and Wales as well as changing my opinions about some of the laws. Other than changing the way one looks at the law, McBride offers valuable unheard advice to help ensure students succeed to the best of their abilities when studying law. This book definitely contains valuable and unique advice which may give any law student the edge they may need. There is definitely value in the book which goes through how one should read the different materials that one will be expected to read during their law degree.

This book does, however, lack in a few areas. Yes, it provides excellent general advice but in some areas, it could provide more detail or even provide sample exam and essay questions more than it actually does. This would allow students more opportunity to understand what is expected of them when doing a law degree as it is still very unclear to me what law essays are like and how you are meant to write them as well as not providing much information about the different degree classifications and what each means. However, McBride may cover these problems with the extra resources available on his website and the other book recommendations both on his website and in this book.

Altogether, I have no choice but to rate this book 5 stars as it is an excellent pre-university law degree read and it is extremely obvious that McBride has put his heart and sole into writing this book and that is something which we cannot overlook because his passion for the subject of law is very evident and contagious. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone preparing to study law at university.
