Introduction to Employment Law by Kathy Daniels

Introduction to Employment Law: Fundamentals for HR and Business students by Kathy Daniels is an academic book covering a wide range of areas of Employment Law which goes through each area such as employment tribunals, health and safety, dismissals, legislation, equality and working times in simple language with references to legislation and cases throughout. The use of real-life cases helps to illustrate the points and the exercises at the end of each chapter allows the reader to apply their developing legal knowledge. This is the perfect book for any HR, Business or Law student or anyone who has a general interest in employment law.

I enjoyed this book because it did not contain any jargon and all specialist terminology was fully explained within the sections as well as in the glossary at the back. As mentioned, the case studies help to further illustrate the laws and why the law can be applied differently in each section. I also really liked the tasks at the end of each section as these are perfect to develop your legal application skills which sound vital for the exams in employment law.

There isn't really any area where I can criticise this book which is good and I can confidently say makes the ideal textbook for anyone in this line of business. Although Law students may want to go in a bit more depth, this book provides a great starting point to develop and revise any employment law knowledge and effectively teaches all the basics with clear references to all the cases and legislation used throughout the book.

Altogether, I must rate this book 3 stars making it a good book which is definitely worth a read. It was perfect for someone like me who wants to study law in the near future to expand my general knowledge of employment law purely out of interest and I'm convinced it will be even more useful for an individual studying employment law. I would also like to take the moment to thank both NetGalley and Kogan Page Ltd for providing me with an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book in return for a positive book review.
