Give Me More!

There are some fantastic standalone books out there which many people love. However, we always seem to read these books too fast because we enjoy them so much and we are wishing there was more. A sequel or even a companion novel. We just do not want the story to stop there as there is so much more we want to know. Therefore, this week's Top 5 Wednesday post is about the 5 books that I want more of. This is because I loved them so much or that the writer left the story on a cliffhanger and so I want to know more. Let's get straight to it, The Top 5 Books that I want more of.

1. To Kill a Mockingbird

To start with we have To Kill a Mockingbird which is one of my favourites and is often featured in these Top 5 Wednesday posts. I loved the story of this book with all the lessons and themes which are included in it, in particular, the themes of racism and the social-historical context which comes with it. I loved how Harper Lee was able to tackle such subjects in a great matter which in some cases brought emotion to the readers as well as anger in some parts of the story as well. I want more of this story because I really enjoyed it and I want to know where the characters are now as adults because this book was the adult Scout remembering her and her brother's childhood. I was pleased to find out that there is a second novel titled Go Set a Watchman, again written by Harper Lee which I am looking forward to reading soon.

2. An Inspector Calls

This is one of those required reading books for GCSE English Literature and I started this course thinking all literature was boring but I soon changed my mind, especially during the lesson before we started reading this book as I found out about the plot and then I suddenly got very excited. Obviously, it is about the working class Eva Smith who commits suicide with disinfectant and dies in the infirmary and Priestley presents the ideas that this was because of the Birlings and Gerald. The play looks at the first interview of the Birlings and Gerald where their secrets are exposed by Inspector Goole who they later confirm was not a real police inspector and some people may say he was the ghost of socialist conscience. However, by the end of the play, the Birlings and Gerald learn that a real police inspector was coming to question them about a girl who died in the way that Eva did and then the play ends on a cliffhanger which is annoying. I want a follow-up book/play which shows us what happened to the Birlings and Gerald and see if they have changed.

3. The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

Next, I have The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stephenson which was a great book regardless of the ridiculously long chapters. I really enjoyed this book mainly as it includes some of my favourite topics including Psychology and Horror. I enjoyed this book so much that I wish there was another book to go with it and until recently there had been nothing of the kind. However, Hyde by Craig Russell has recently been published which is kind of linked to Stephenson's original tale and this is a book I have read and was not disappointed by.

4. Phoenix

This is the book that any returning visitors will know I have a strong love-hate relationship with. This is not the same to go through why I love but hate this book as I have done that before and it would take a whole post to fully explain my love-hate relationship. Regardless, this book was interesting and Briana, the main character, begins a new adventure as the book ends. I, therefore, want to follow Briana on her new adventure to see what happens to her and the people she will work with. I am hoping that I will not be left disappointed and that the author will write a follow-up book very soon.

5. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

This was another one of those compulsory reads which I have really enjoyed. The plot was great and I would go as far as calling it a piece of art. The book is very well written and the messages in the book and how they have been presented are not only very important but genius how the writer has done it. This was one of those really gripping page-turners which made you want to keep reading on and even played at the reader's emotions occasionally. I, therefore, want more of the same because this book was very good indeed.

Anyway, there we have it, The Top 5 Books that I want more of. I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I enjoyed writing it and I look forward to writing my next Top 5 Wednesday post too. Please do leave a comment below with the book you want more of and also please share the link around to all your friends.
