25th December 2020 Book Portal Advent

 Merry Christmas Readers!!!

Thank you for keeping up with Book Portals December advent calendar and thank you for coming back daily for inspiration to read. I hope you have enjoyed this advent calendar, if so please leave a comment below. I hope you have a great Christmas despite these strange Coronavirus times and I look forward to sharing more posts very soon!

1. You will make more money- If you make a serious effort to read in your chosen career, your expertise in that speciality will increase. As you become more specialised and learned, you join a smaller group of more qualified people. By being part of the small few with the highest level knowledge your pay will increase. It is simple supply and demand.

2. The book is always better than the movie- What are some of the most important books you have ever read? What is the title that changed your life? If you have found a book that made a major change in how you work, live or love, I am sure it has helped you significantly. Anyway, a large number of these life-changing books are made into movies, especially fiction books. However, in my opinion, the book is normally much better than the movie because it contains more detail, it allows you to use your imagination of where the story is taking place and it better enables you to think like the author. It is for this reason that my rule is that whenever possible, I will always read the book before watching the movie.

3. Reading brightens your day- Reading books brings joy to your life, every day! As reading books brings many benefits both mentally and physically, it will definitely brighten your day. We all experience worrisome or stressful days but when we lay down and curl up with some good book, our spirits will be lifted and stress and worry will vanish. Books are so easy to carry with you and especially today, with the ever-increasing popularity of e-readers, you can enjoy reading a good book anytime, anywhere.

The importance of reading is so well stated in the following quotes-

"The more you read, the more you will learn- the more you learn, the more places you will go..." Dr Seuss

“If you cannot read all your books…fondle them — peer into them, let them fall open where they will, read from the first sentence that arrests the eye, set them back on the shelves with your own hands, arrange them on your own plan so that you at least know where they are. Let them be your friends; let them, at any rate, be your acquaintances.” Winston Churchill

“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.” Walt Disney

“How can any man judge unless his mind has been opened and enlarged by reading?” John Adams
