 1. Books are inexpensive entertainment- What's the average cost of a cinema ticket these days? Quite a lot! You can buy a paperback book from a shop for the price of a cinema ticket, or even two books for the price of a cinema ticket, and you would be entertained for many more hours and it will actually have more advantages than watching a film. If you have a used bookstore nearby, you can get books even cheaper. Furthermore, if you have an e-reader like the ones from amazon, you can pay as little as 99 pence for a book, you can read some books for free with a kindle unlimited membership and even better if you like the classics you can read the books on the public domain for free! Therefore, not only reading is a better form of entertainment than lots of things these days, it can be a lot cheaper and help you save lots of money also. Since I have got my Kindle e-reader, it has been months since I have read a paperback book but reading from a device does not take away any of the advantages.

2. Reading boosts writing skills- Developing better writing skills is related to expanding our vocabulary. When reading, we expose our brain to usually well-written texts which will also affect our own writing capabilities, even when we are unaware that this is actually happening. Just like painters learn from and use the techniques developed by previous painters, and musicians develop their skillset by listening to other musicians and studying and playing their pieces, our writing skills will improve when we read written works. Then if we have improved our writing skills, our writing will sound much better and may help us in many areas of life.
