1. Improves concentration and focus- When reading books, the reading takes brainpower. It requires you to focus on what you are reading for long periods and depending on the type of book, some books use more brainpower and focus than other books. Unlike magazines, internet posts or e-mails that may contain small chunks of information, books contain large amounts of information and will tell you the whole story. Since you must concentrate in order to read, like a muscle which gets better at continuous weight training, you will get better at concentration.
2. Reading is Mental Stimulation- Like our muscles and bodies need lots of weight training and cardio training to keep fit and healthy our brains also requires lots of exercise to function to the best of its ability. This will keep our brains healthy and strong and be able to problem-solve effectively. Playing games like chess or doing puzzles are very helpful exercises with cognitive stimulation and so is reading. Mental stimulation empowers the brain, slows down the ageing process and may even help to lower the chances of developing Dementia or Alzheimer's Disease.
