How it Works- The Mum- Review

 Review

This book, How it Works- The Mum is the second book I have read from the ladybird grown-ups collection which features a large variety of books written especially for grown-ups. These books feature a range of topics but look in particular at different parts and relationships of family life.

This ladybird book for grown-ups is all about mothers and their role in the world, how they are meant to look after their children and everything else. We look at a variety of different mothers in this book and learn about how they all come in different shapes and sizes and although they all do the same jobs, some specialise in specific jobs and are very good at these jobs.

This book is not like other books for grown-ups on the market as there is minimal writing with lots of pictures which not only makes it an enjoyable read but also a quick read to keep you entertained for a short while. The book is in the format of a book for young children but the contents of this book is written especially for grown-ups and adults to cheer them up and entertain them for a bit. This is a good book to start off with if you do not like reading or do not want to read a massively long book.

Many of the characters in this book felt very real to me as although this book is written to make us laugh and entertain us I have noticed that some of the points in this story could be perceived as true by different people and it could even be your own mother's characteristics in this book. There has obviously been loads of research put into this book to see what common traits mothers share as it does to some extent tell us how the mother works.

Throughout the book, I kept having to guess what the next point would be as although the characteristics in this book are true many of these characteristics are ones that we are likely to otherwise overlook and would not think of being included in an exciting book like this one. The pictures which went with the words also fit in very well and the images alone could make you laugh for hours on end.

This book has a way of keeping the reader stuck in and reading every page and analysing the pictures whilst making us laugh because of the creativity of the writers and artists. Once I finish reading one of these ladybird books for grown-ups they always leave me wanting to read more because of the original but humourous contents of the book.

I honestly cannot think of any disadvantages of this little hardback books as it is short and sweet with a twist of humour intertwined into every page of the book. It has clearly been well thought out and is a great way for adults to enjoy the much-beloved ladybird books from their childhood but in a manner more suitable for them. If you liked this book I would recommend also reading the other books from the series as they all offer something similar but different.

I would rate this book 3 out of 5 stars as I enjoyed this book as it is a quick read which easily makes you laugh without going into loads of different details. This means we get to the point much quicker than a novel which would be about the same thing.
